🔍 Strengths & Practical Use

  • Still quite capable for 1080p gaming, especially in older or moderately demanding titles.

  • Good for eSports titles (CS:GO, Dota 2, Valorant) with smooth performance at high settings.

  • Supports multi-display setups and decent resolutions (4K @ 60 Hz for non-gaming / desktop).

  • Has features like GPU Boost, DSR (Dynamic Super Resolution), MFAA, etc.

⚠️ Limitations / Things to Be Aware Of

  • Although marketed as 4 GB, the GTX 970 memory is segmented: 3.5 GB high-speed memory + 0.5 GB lower bandwidth.

  • The last 512 MB section has reduced performance, which can lead to stutters or performance drops if the card is pushed beyond its faster memory limit.

  • Modern AAA games and high texture / high resolution settings may exceed its comfortable limits.

  • Power / cooling requirements are nontrivial for older / budget systems.

  • Lack of newer features (ray tracing, DLSS, newer codecs) as found in modern GPU generations.
